Council Policies
In the 'good old days' Parish Councils, although formal elected bodies, ran themselves in very ad hoc, unstructured ways and did more or less what they wanted provided it was legal. Consequently, other than the Bye-laws, there were few specifically adopted policies governing the way it operated or what it did.
However, in the past ten years or so, as government increasingly recognised their importance, Parish Councils have become more regulated and more accountable for their actions. Consequently, Elwick Parish Council has had to determine more and more policies and procedures to ensure that it operates in an acceptable and transparent manner.
